my work
the process
Creating a booklet with a subject not of my choosing, overpopulation, I had to carefully craft something that was legible and visually interesting with a difficult topic. One of those intricate requirements was to incorporate a “diecut,” which is a printing technique where shapes or designs are cut out of printed material. I chose the simplest shape, a circle, which goes through the cover and of course the first page which are indicated by the black circles, to reveal the crowded circular photo on page 3. As I strenuously researched overpopulation and its dangers, its believers and nonbelievers of the issue, and the threat of its arrival, I strove for this situation to not be overlooked. Unlike the individuals who question the validity of this environmental issue, I brought it to light with detailed paragraphs regarding the who, what, when, and where. Although paragraphs don’t particularly press the audience on the surface, I included elements to help illustrate this issue visually. I did this by increasing the stress of the reader by having an increasing number of people present as the pages progress. As well as a circle element to instill a feeling of impending doom, hence the severity of the issue.
